5th Summer Dance School

7-12 July 2025

"Choros kai Texni" dance school invites you to the 5th SUMMER DANCE SCHOOL.
The summer school will be held in Heraklion, at the island of Crete in Greece from 7 to 12 july 2025.

Who Can Participate:
-Girls and boys over 9 years old till adults that are involved in the dance field.
-Amateurs, students in vocational dance schools and professionals.
-Teachers/Trainee Teachers -8 hours time valued CPD.

What is included:
Hair and Make up classes, pas de deux, vocabulary and analysis steps, observations and nutrition for dancers, cinema night, farewell party, open day for relatives to watch. There will be scholarships, presents and certificates of participation.

The 5th Summer Dance School 2025 is the biggest in Greece that offers unique opportunities to participants to gain a high quality training in dance and also to have fun and to have a wonderful experience.

By participating in the 5th Summer Dance School 2025, students will see improvement at your technique, your interpretation and your dance stlyle.

For teachers who will participate, will have daily lectures and practical dance classes that are 8 hours Time-Valued CPD.

The classes will be held from professional teachers and ex dancers that will travel from London and Leeds (United Kingdom) and Athens(Greece).

Andrew Wilson

DANCER/BALLET TEACHER

Andrew was born in Dublin, Ireland and trained with Jill Wigham, “BirdCollege”, Kent (on a scholarship under the direction of Doreen Bird) and “The RoyalBallet Upper School”(Dancer’s Course), London, where he was chosen to represent the schoolat the 1984 InternationalBallet Competition, “The Prix De Lausanne”with former RoyalBallet Principal Ballerina, Vivianna Durante.He was also awarded the Cyril Beaumontprize for making the mostprogress in his first year of study. He was a member of “Sadlers Well’sRoyal Ballet”,promoted to coryphée in 1989 and to Soloist of “The BirminghamRoyalBallet”in 1991. Andrew’s professional principal/soloist roles include leads in Sir Kenneth Macmillan’s “Elite Syncopations” (Golden Hours, Hot House Rag), Dances Concertantes, (Side boys), Sir Peter Wright’s “Giselle” (Peasant Pas de Six), “The Nutcracker” (Drosselmeyer, Chinese, Spanish, Arabian, Winds, King Rat), John Cranko’s“Card Game”(5 of Hearts),George Balanchine’s“Theme and Variations” (Demi Soloist), Sir FrederickAshton’s“Jazz Calendar” (Tuesday’sChild), “Façade” (The Dago, Foxtrot, Yodelling Boys) Sir David Bintley’s“Brahms Handle Variations” (a lead role), “Hobson’s Choice” (Albert Prosser, original bride), “The Snow Queen” (original Wolf). He has also danced soloist and corps de ballet roles in Sir Peter Wright and Galina Samsova’s “Swan Lake” “The Sleeping Beauty” , “Coppelia”, ” Raymonda, Act 3,Sir Kenneth Macmillan’s “Romeo and Juliet”, Sir Fred Ashton’s“La Fille Mal Gardee” . He has danced in other works by Dame Ninette de Valois, Leonide Massine , which was awarded  an Evening Standard award, Hans Van Manen’s , Agnes De Mille, Susan Crow , Graham Lustig, Kurt Joos, Sir David Bintley’s “Flowers of the Forest”,George Balanchine and John Cranko . On BRBs Springboard tour he performed in Jennifer Jackson’s “The Sum of the Parts”, Sir David Bintley’s “Scottish Dances” and Sir FrederickAshton’s Pas De Quatre from“Swan Lake”. He has worked for the Dublin Grand Opera Society in the opera “AdriannaLecouvreur” and featured in the short film “Shoes”, directed by thelate Peter Finnegan, which was entered for the Cannes Film Festival. Andrew has performed in “The Royal Variety Show”, hosted by Gene Kelly, “The Children’s’RoyalVarietyShow” with Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan. Whilst in BRB, he was also a backing dancer for theband “Status Quo”. He has been fortunate to travel the world with the company and has been to New Zealand, Korea, Singapore, India,Bulgaria, Germany, North and South America, China, Poland to name but a few. In 1995 he gained distinction on the Professional Dancers’ Teachers Course at “The Royal Academy of Dance”and became Head of Boys Ballet at “Elmhurst” under the direction  of former RB ballerina, Alfreda Thorogood. He was repetiteur for Geffrey Cauley (formerly TheRoyal Ballet) and Christopher Hampson (Artistic Director of “Scottish Ballet.”)He was also responsible for rehearsing the children in Derek Deane’s “The Nutcracker” for English National Ballet. He staged Bintley’s Scottish Dances from “The Flowers of the Forest”, The Betrayed girl from De Valois’“The Rake’s Progress” and sections from Ashton’s “Façade”. He joined the staff  of “Bird College” in 2000 under the direction of Sue Passmoreand was also responsible for the teaching of classical pas de deux to all years. He was promoted to Head of Ballet in 2006 and to Head of Contemporaryand Ballet in 2015. He was also production manager for their annual show at The Orchard Theatre, Dartford. He co-choreographed for the Year 3 musicals with Erica Lawrence, including productions of “Children of Eden”, “The Life”, “Bat Boy”, “Sweet Charity”, “Kiss me Kate” and “Fame”. He has guest taught at “Scapino Ballet”, Rotterdam, “Ballet Ireland”, Dublin, and was invited to teach at “The Hungarian Dance Academy”,Budapest, taking the artisticdirector’s class of boys for a week. He has taught for The Phyliss Bedell’s BursaryAward (RAD) held at White Lodge and adjudicated/taught for The Baines Hewitt Award and taught/adjudicated at The Imperial Classical Ballet Awards (ISTD). He has regularly taught on the RAD Summer School in Tokyo, Japan for 8 years and was also responsible for the setting of the Advanced 2 Boys Syllabus (ISTD), Imperial Classical Ballet, which is examined internationally. He is a former Imperial Classical Ballet Vocational/Graded Examiner.  He has filmed a TV series for RTE in Dublin for Mind The Gap films called “Pump up my Dance” where he was the ballet master. Andrew guest teaches for  “Studio Wayne McGregor” , Rambert Dance Company and  Mathew Bourne’s “New Adventures” and is currently a freelance Ballet Tutor teaching at “Performer’s College,” Essex.

Upon completing her formal education, she furthered her dance and performance studies under the guidance of renowned international instructors, including: David Zambrano (Contemporary Dance), Frank Hatchett (Jazz), Vanessa Andrada (Hip Hop / Street Styles) She has participated in numerous prestigious dance seminars worldwide, including in London, Edinburgh, Vienna, Paris, and New York. These experiences have contributed to her ongoing technical and artistic development in Contemporary Dance, Modern Jazz, Musical Theatre, and Street Dance. Notable institutions she has attended include: Pineapple Studios (London), ImpulsTanz (Vienna), Broadway Dance Centre (New York), Steps on Broadway (New York), Tap City (New York) Performance and Choreography Experience Flamenco: Dancer with Natasha Deka’s Dance Company Ronda Al Alba (Athens, Greece). Contemporary Jazz: Dancer with On Stage Dance Company (Athens, Greece). Her work includes preparing professional dancers for certification exams and teaching qualifications, as well as fostering the growth of the next generation of dance educators. She continues to be an influential figure in the dance community, maintaining a commitment to excellence in both her performance and educational endeavors. Certifications and Qualifications ISTD Qualified Tutor: Specializing in Dance Diploma Degrees in Imperial Ballet and Modern Theatre (DDE/Licentiate/Fellowship) ISTD Lecturer: Invited by the ISTD in 2012 to join the teaching team for the new advanced 1 Modern Theatre syllabus and the Modern Theatre Grades, an honor she accepted with enthusiasm and gratitude. Certified Modern Theatre and Contemporary Examiner: conducting international examinations. In October 2024 Angeliki was elected as a member of the Modern Theatre Committee by the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD), first ever international representative elected to this prestigious committee. She is deeply honored about this opportunity, and she is eager to contribute to the development and oversight of the Modern Theatre syllabus and initiatives, looking forward to working collaboratively with such a talented and dedicated group of individuals.

CONTEMPORARY CLASS

Antonio Borriello

EDUCATOR/CHOREOGRAPHER /REHEARSAL DIRECTOR

As a specialist in contemporary dance, Antonio trained in the Netherlands at CODARTS Rotterdam – University for the Arts, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Honours Degree in Dance Performance. He has danced professionally with Phoenix Dance Theatre (England), Scapino Ballet Rotterdam (The Netherlands), and Florence Dance Company (Italy), and has worked with internationally renowned choreographers including Sharon Watson, Richard Alston, and Regina Van Berkel. He has also performed works by notable choreographers such as JiríKylián, Nacho Duato, Hans Van Manen, and Henri Oguike, among others. Antonio’s teaching credits include Phoenix Dance Theatre, National Dance Company Wales, Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre, ACE Dance and Music, Northern School of Contemporary Dance, The Place, The Hammond School, KS Dance, Renaissance Arts, Morea Performing Arts, Northern Ballet Academy, Greenwich Dance, and ProDance Leeds, among others. From April 2015 to May 2024, Antonio was the Youth Academy Programme Manager at Phoenix Dance Theatre, overseeing a pre-vocational contemporary dance programme for young dancers aged 13 to 18. Over his nine-year tenure, he expanded the programme from two to seven cohorts across England, training up to 150 young people annually. As the Professional Training Manager at Phoenix Dance Theatre, Antonio also served as a coach and mentor to undergraduate and postgraduate students completing placements and apprenticeships with the company, supporting them in their preparation and successful entry into the professional dance sector. Antonio is also part of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) Contemporary
Syllabus research and development team. Since 2017, he has worked alongside Dr Ross McKim and the ISTD on the syllabus’s development, filming, launch, and ongoing training, and continues to deliver teacher training courses in the UK, Italy, and beyond. Passionate about management within the cultural and creative sectors, Antonio graduated
from Leeds Beckett University in November 2022 with an MSc in Business Management & Leadership. His master’s thesis focused on the relationship between leadership and employee engagement in performing arts organisations.

Laura Hussey

DANCER/REPEROITRE TEACHER

Laura Hussey was born in London and trained at The Royal Ballet Upper School for three years before joining Sadler’s Wells Royal Ballet (now Birmingham Royal Ballet). Whilst there she danced many soloist and principal roles including The Snow Queen,The Black Queen in Checkmate, Red Girls in Les Patineurs , The Lilac Fairy solo in The Sleeping Beauty, Prayer in Coppelia and the 3rd Variation in Paquita. She then joined London City Ballet where she danced for ten years rising to the rank of Principal. Roles here included Carabosse in The Sleeping Beauty, Swanilda in Coppelia, Blue Girls in Les Patineurs, Ugly Sister, Fairy Godmother, Winter and Autumn in Cinderella, Corsaire Pas de Deux and Don Quixote pas de deux. When LCB sadly closed she joined English National Ballet where she enjoyed performing Lady Capulet and Nurse in Romeo and Juliet,Mrs Umney in The Canterville Ghost, Stepmother in Cinderella, Queen ,Waltz and Spanish in Swan Lake as well as running and performing in the Angelina Ballerina show for the company. Laura retired in 2010 and is now a freelance ballet teacher. She has taught at several schools in England as well as at summer schools as far as Bermuda. She is currently enjoying a return to stage dancing with English National Ballet in The Nutcracker and Giselle at The London Coliseum. Laura is excited to join Maria and the faculty for the summer school in Crete.
